Dreamy : Color and Creativity

I recently did a post on an artist that I discovered at a festival in a neighboring city. As much as watching her do her signature caricatures was fun and interesting, my heart began to beat a little faster when I starting taking photos of the used bits and pieces of chalk just a few feet away.

My senses started to perk up with the sight of the pastel colors and the chipped, broken pieces that were left over after being swiftly and intensely used to create something amazing. I took in the faint smell of chalk and thought of the residue of powder swept from a page after a stroke of the hand. I remembered what it felt like to have pastel-stained fingers and wanting to use every single color in a symphony of movement. Buying fresh pastels and blank paper was a rush. Seeing these trays of color brought it all back … that part of me that used to take the time to sit and play on paper.

These little remnants and fragments reminded me of the passion and urgency of creativity at a young age and a whisper that there’s still no time like the present to reconnect.
