Dallas + Yarn … it’s the bomb!

Although it was a balmy 65+ degrees last Sunday, I spent time with a group of energetic and creative women who made it their goal to keep Dallas warm! If you live in Texas, you know how quickly the weather can turn frigid. True to their giving nature, the Dallas Yarn Bombers were on the case, coordinating with Warm Up America to supply those in need with extra ways to keep warm this winter.

Broken up into four groups with the goal of hitting different parts of the city, they set out to deliver the 472 donated hats and scarves, many knitted and donated in short notice by members of the group and friends. Everything was hung in trees or fences for easy access to those in need and free for the taking. Each had a card attached letting the recipients know that they were hand-made from love with them in mind.

The Dallas Yarn Bombers group was founded by Sally Ackerman and Ronda Van Dyk. Having seen the unique beautification that this group provides around the city, I was honored to be able to participate and see it first-hand! Fortunate to be asked by a friend to join her in the event, I was just happy to tag along. These yarn bombers mean business and they have a lot of fun doing it! From city light poles to parking meters and beyond, these artists take a hands-on talent and share it with the world!

Since we broke up into groups, I didn’t get to photograph all of the other participants, but you can see their pics on the Facebook page. Here’s a link to a local news clip: http://www.fox4news.com/clip/11142252/yarn-bombers-help-homeless

So, Dallas Yarn Bombers, thank you for shining your light!
