A Mere Loss – for Fred W.

One week ago today I lost a beloved pet. This evening I sat quietly, thinking about how we would be spending time if she were still here … playing, relaxing, and me being grateful for her presence in my life. Today I received news of the passing of a beloved boss from my past. So I also spent time this evening thinking of how we would be spending time together … catching up, exchanging well wishes, and hopefully mentioning the topic of C.S. Lewis, as we did so often during those quiet afternoons at the office way back when. It meant a lot. It was a bridge – something we had in common – and I never forgot it. I’m grateful for his presence in my life for that brief period of time. After reconnecting on Facebook after so many years, I can’t remember if I ever told him that he made a difference in my life, but we exchanged messages or comments from time to time and I’d like to think he knew it. Thank you, Fred, for shining your light. I sincerely hope that everyone gets to experience the kindness and lightness of spirit in an employer the way I did. My heart and prayers are with your family! This quote is for you:

“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket- safe, dark, motionless, airless–it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable.” – C.S. Lewis

Do you know someone who’s shining their light? Contact us and tell us their story! We love to network with people doing things that bring them joy and serve others in the process. We seek out opportunities to shine light on the good works of individuals and organizations! We would also love to hear your story and/or have you participate in our gallery. There’s no one quite like you and we’d like to acknowledge that! THANK YOU FOR SHINING YOUR LIGHT!
